Kalyan Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Selling Blind Couple’s Newborn

Doctor Who Sold Newborn Baby Stolen From Hospital To Couple For $20,000 Arrested | IBTimes

*Shocking Allegations Surface*

In a distressing case from Kalyan, a 30-year-old doctor, A. Dhoni, has been booked under the Juvenile Justice Act for allegedly selling the newborn baby of a blind couple for ₹50,000. The couple, Kerrabai and Rohit Gurav, reported the situation to the district's Childcare Unit after the doctor withheld their baby for eight days following birth.

*A Complicated Journey to Parenthood*

Kerrabai, who learned of her pregnancy at four months, initially sought an abortion due to financial hardships. However, Dr. Dhoni reportedly persuaded her to continue with the pregnancy, promising to cover hospital expenses and support the education of her two other children. "He told me I couldn’t abort the baby and assured me of help," Kerrabai explained.

On August 23, she went to Ganapati Nursing Home for delivery, but Dr. Dhoni sent her family home, claiming that delivery would take another day. The delivery occurred later that night without any family present, and the couple was not allowed to see their newborn.

*A Disturbing Revelation*

After eight days of waiting, during which the doctor provided vague excuses about the baby's condition, he allegedly admitted to selling the infant. "He said he had sold the baby to a family for ₹50,000 and would give us the remaining amount after taking his share," Kerrabai recounted. "We just wanted our baby back."

Dr. Dhoni also reportedly administered pills to Kerrabai without her consent to suppress lactation. Following the intervention of a social worker, the couple eventually regained custody of their child.

In response to the allegations, Dr. Dhoni has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the child was in the hospital and that the parents were unwilling to take the baby home. He has not provided the couple with the baby's medical records and is demanding payment for hospital bills.

*Legal Action Underway*

A case was registered against Dr. Dhoni at Khadakpada police station following a complaint from a Child Welfare Committee officer. Senior Police Inspector Amarnath Waghmode stated, “We have registered a case under Sections 81 and 82 of the Juvenile Justice Act and are currently investigating the matter. Further charges may be added as needed.”

This case has raised significant concerns about medical ethics and the protection of vulnerable families, particularly those with disabilities. The community is watching closely as the investigation unfolds.
